Pokemon Revisits Its Roots in Pokemon: The Origin

Back in 1996, Satoshi Tajiri transformed his childhood hobby of insect collecting into a Game Boy game that launched a global phenonemon. That game was Pokemon. Fast forward seventeen years and the franchise is still going strong and trainers across the world are eagerly awaiting Pokemon X and Y, the first installment in the game's sixth generation of titles. Now, aspiring Pokemon masters now have something else to look forward this October as the franchise's official Japanese website announced Pokemon: The Origin, a TV anime special based on the original Red and Green games.

‘Phineas & Ferb: Mission Marvel’ Posts Super Ratings

Disney Channel says its Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel special which aired at 8 p.m. on Friday (August 16) garnered the series’ best numbers in over six months in Total Viewers (3.8 million) and Kids 6-11 (1.7 million/7.1 rating), in nearly one year in Kids 2-11 (2.3 million/5.7 rating) and in over one year in Boys 6-11 (827,000/6.9 rating) and Boys 2-11 (1.1 million/5.3 rating)—since 2/1/13, 8/24/12 and 7/26/12, respectively. The special crossover episode also ranked as Friday’s #1 TV telecast across major youth demos and was the #1 cable TV telecast in Total Viewers.

Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis secured the top spot on a list of "The 50 Greatest Graphic Novels of All Time" compiled by The Herald of Scotland, which surveyed an undisclosed number of “cartoonists, novelists, critics, journalists, comic historians, comedians, and the odd musician” in order to come up with the rankings. There are more than a few surprises on the list (From Hell is ranked ahead of Watchmen), and there is a definite European bias (manga is represented only by one volume from Otomo, one from Tezuka, and Barefoot Gen), but it is instructive nonetheless.
