Behind the Voice: Eric Vale
July,30,2013
by+ Staff

Few voice actors have made as big of an impression in a relatively short time in the industry as Eric Vale. Best known for his portrayals of Trunks on Dragon Ball Z, Sanji on One Piece and the hamburger-loving America on Hetalia, Vale is also a genuinely nice guy. He first broke into the industry with his work on DBZ and since, has gone on to appear in such shows as Fruits Basket, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fullmetal Alchemist, Crayon Shin-chan, Ouran High School Host Club, Toriko and many more. Known for his signature voice tone, Vale is one of the industry's go-to performers when casting “lovable but kind of smug” heroes.

July,26,2013
by+Staff

Hail to the King - A story so nice that they nominated it twice, Brandon Graham's King City took home the 2013 Eisner Award for "Best Graphic Album - Reprint." Although Image Comics handled the reprint, we originally published the series in 2007 - when it also received an Eisner nomination - and we are beyond thrilled that Brandon's terrific tale is receiving the accolades it deserves. Old Visitor from Another Planet
July,25,2013
by:+Michael Mallory

One of the themes of the 2013 Comic-Con, which ended last week, was the 75th anniversary of the most popular space alien of American culture: Kal-El of Krypton, a.k.a. Superman.
Superman was the first comic-book character to translate to animation, only a few years after his creation in 1938. Starting in 1941, the Fleischer studios started turning out Superman short cartoons, which at the time was revolutionary. They were not the first cartoons to feature human characters, but they were the first ones to strive for a more realistic depiction of the human figure (thanks in large part to rotoscoping). They were also essentially non-comedic, presenting mini-adventures instead of laughs, sometimes involving wartime themes.

TOKYOPOP-TV Presents: Orchestral Awesomeness & You Higuri
July,24,2013
by:+Staff

String Theory - There's just something about orchestral arrangements that transforms a normal song from good to great, especially when it's an anime theme song. Maybe it's the gravitas that comes with a full string section bringing the sweet swells of something like the sweet strains of Neon Genesis Evangelion's "Cruel Angel's Thesis" to life. Maybe it just sounds really awesome. Either way, this week on PopStix, our weekly pop culture countdown show, Choppie and Stickie count down the Top 10 Orchestral Versions of Anime Theme Songs and the results are music to our ears.
