Dave McKean's Stunning Cover for 'Sandman: Overture

Comic-Con News: On the eve of the San Diego Comic-Con during which Neil Gaiman will be honored, DC Comics released Dave McKean’s stunning cover to Sandman: Overture #1. With its collage effects and logo remix it is clear that this is the work of the same artist who pioneered this mixed media style with the daring cover for Sandman #1 back in 1988. But there is an assurance and maturity about this latest effort that makes it especially compelling. As Gaiman put it after seeing the design, "There is something special about Dave McKean that makes it feel real. I get the same thrill that I got 25 years ago seeing his covers."

Welcome to the N.H.K.'s Oiwa Draws Assassin's Creed 4 Manga

Shueisha's Jump X magazine has revealed that manga artist Kendi Oiwa (Welcome to the N.H.K., Goth, Sugar Dark Umerareta Yami to Shōjo) will draw a manga adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag video game. Novelist Takashi Yano (Sengoku Basara 3: Date Masamune no Shō) will handle the manga's scenario. The manga will premiere in the September issue of the magazine on August 10.

Marvel Comics Launches New Cross-Platform Promotion

To ride the popularity of the studio’s live-action features and animated series on Disney XD and Cartoon Network, Marvel Entertainment has launched a cross-platform promotional campaign to increase awareness of its comic-books. The campaign, which is called Share Your Universe aims to use the success of its its Avengers and Spider-Man brands outside comics to encourage new readers to explore comic-books in print and online.

'Oldboy' Red-band Trailer

Director Spike Lee looks to be sticking very close to the film source material, if this first Oldboy trailer is any indication. The trailer for the remake of the 2003 South Korean revenge-thriller shows the 20-year imprisonment of star Josh Brolin (see "'Oldboy' Movie Gets Star"), then fast-forwards to his mysterious release, where things get violent and bloody. There are a few glimpses of co-star Samuel L. Jackson near the end. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley, with screenplay by Mark Protosevich (who wrote screenplays for I Am Legend and Thor).
