Anime Gives Back - Studio Ghibli art director Nizo Yamamato's (Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke) newly announced, crowdsourced film Kibo no Ki (or The Tree of Hope) seeks to provide relief to areas still affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The animated film will be based on the single pine tree that survived the catastrophe and fans can help both with the production and the relief effort by checking out the film's WESYM page.

Yoda Chronicles’ Launches on Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network will be welcoming the latest edition to the LEGO Star Wars toon family tonight (Wednesday, May 29) at 8 p.m. with the premiere of The Yoda Chronicles—a three-part animated adventure set in the prequel era that centers on a new Sith plan to create Force-enhanced clones and Yoda’s attempts to stop them, set to air throughout the year.

'Sword Art Online' Anime Due in August

Aniplex of America has announced the August debut of the first volume of the hit anime series Sword Art Online, which is based on a series of light novels by Reki Kawahara that was adapted into a 25-episode anime series produced by A-1 Pictures that aired in Japan in 2012. The series takes place in the near future and deals with several virtual reality MMORPG worlds, especially the eponymous Sword Art Online where once players log on, they are unable to log out until they have reached the 100th floor of the game’s tower and defeated the final boss. The anime series is slated to debut on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in August of this year.

'Axe Cop 4-Inch Figures' Due in October

Mezco Toys has announced the lineup for its first series of toys based on Axe Cop, the Webcomic that began as a series of stories by a five-year-old boy that were illustrated by his 29-year-old brother. Dark Horse picked up the Webcomic and turned it into a popular print comic. An Axe Cop animated series is slated to debut on Fox on July 27th (see "Voice Cast for 'Axe Cop'"), and Steve Jackson Games has already announced an Axe Cop expansion for its popular Munchkin game (see "'Axe Cop' Expansion for 'Munchkin'")
