Video: Gene Luen Yang on 'Boxers' and 'Saints'

Acclaimed graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang is back with a stunning pair of graphic novels, Boxers and Saints. Set in turn of the 20th century China, the books offer two perspectives of the Boxer Rebellion: in Boxers, Little Bao joins the Boxer rebellion to save China from Christian missionaries and other "foreign devils." In Saints, Four-Girl is all but abandoned by her family and, inspired by visions of Joan of Arc, joins up to defend the Christians against the Boxers. We caught up with Yang at BookExpo America 2013 to talk about what inspired him to create the books, and learned about some interesting parallels between the Boxers and contemporary comics fans.

+ Technicolor, ABC Television Australia and Australian producer Avrill Stark’s A Stark Production have finalized a partnership for the development of the Gestalt Comics’ graphic novel series The Deep as a CGI animated children’s series.
Created by comic-book writer and playwright Tom Taylor (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Star Wars: Blood Ties) and illustrator James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond), The Deep follows a family of underwater explorers who seek to unravel the mysteries of the deep sea.

Tuesday Geek TV Rundown 'Doctor Who,' 'Outlander

Two geek TV announcements came out on Tuesday, from Doctor Who and Outlander. The Doctor Who reveal was of a poster for the 50th Anniversary Special (see "'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary"), depicting departing Doctor Matt Smith and previous Doctor David Tennant over guest John Hurt, from Hollywood Reporter. The special will air on November 23 in the U.S. and U.K.
