PBS to Premiere Superheroes Series on Oct. 15

U.S-based Public Broadcasting System will devote its entire primetime programming on Oct. 15 to the new comprehensive documentary Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle. Produced and directed by Emmy-winner Michael Kantor (Broadway: The American Musical, Make’ em Laugh: The Funny Business of America) the three-hour doc series will premiere at 8:00 p.m. This look at the world and cultural influences of comic-book superheroes includes interviews with the likes of Stan Lee; actors Adam West (Batman) and Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman); Geoff Johns (chief creative officer, DC Comics), Jeph Loeb (head of television for Marvel Entertainment); Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay) and cartoonist/author Jules Feiffer.

ABC has released a new action-packed clip from Joss Whedon’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which debuts on September 24th and it appears that the team is going to be dealing with some bizarre Whedonesque threats. This trailer for the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot first appeared on the show’s Facebook page.

First TV Spot For 'Thor: The Dark World'

The first extended TV spot for Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World doesn’t contain much new footage, but it does make a pretty good case for the second Thor film from Marvel Studios that will be released October 30th in most of the world before going nationwide here in the U.S. on November 8th.

He's arguably the most iconic villain in the history of everything, but Darth Vader was almost a very different creature ... that is, if George Lucas' early screenplay for something called "The Star Wars" had made its way from page to screen.
Lucas' first pass at what would become the biggest pop culture phenomenon of all time (don't argue) had only a passing resemblance to the "Star Wars" we now all know and have memorized. His May 1974 screenplay known as "The Star Wars" is finally seeing the light of day courtesy of a limited comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics, in which we'll be introduced to such characters as wise old General Luke Skywalker, cocky but naive farmboy Annikin Starkiller and a lizard-like alien named ... Han Solo.

Did everyone rush out and see Top Cat: The Movie when it opened in theatres the first weekend of August? Did anyone even know that something called Top Cat: The Movie opened in theatres on the first weekend in August? Me neither; I stumbled over it accidentally.
Top Cat: The Movie is the English language version of a Mexican-Argentine animated film called Don Gato y su Pandilla (Top Cat and His Gang), which was made in 2011. And the way it oozed its way out into a very limited release here really doesn’t seem to do justice to the boss, to the pip, to the championship that I remember so fondly from my childhood.

Few voice actors have made as big of an impression in a relatively short time in the industry as Eric Vale. Best known for his portrayals of Trunks on Dragon Ball Z, Sanji on One Piece and the hamburger-loving America on Hetalia, Vale is also a genuinely nice guy. He first broke into the industry with his work on DBZ and since, has gone on to appear in such shows as Fruits Basket, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fullmetal Alchemist, Crayon Shin-chan, Ouran High School Host Club, Toriko and many more. Known for his signature voice tone, Vale is one of the industry's go-to performers when casting “lovable but kind of smug” heroes.

Moonscoop LLC in the U.S. and Archie Comics have teamed up to co-produce a new animated series, It’s Archie, featuring the classic comic-book characters Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Reggie as rambunctious pre-teens in a contemporary Riverdale. Moonscoop CEO Mike Young has announced that season one of the off-the-wall comedy adventure (52 x 11) will be offered at MIPJunior and MIPCOM (Oct. 5-10) in Cannes this fall.

Dark Horse Gets EC Comics Library Beginning with 'Tales from the Crypt'

Picking up where Gemstone Publishing left off in 2009, Dark Horse Comics is taking over the publishing reigns of the EC Comics Library, beginning with Tales from the Crypt Volume 4 ($49.99), releasing October 30th. Vault of Horror Volume 3 ($49.99) will follow in January.
Tales from the Crypt Volume 4 reprints issue #s 35 through 40 of the original EC horror series, which featured art by the likes of Jack Davis, Joe Orlando, Jack Kamen, Graham Ingels, George Evans, Reed Crandall, Bill Elder, and Bernie Krigstein. Marie Severin’s original colors will be used as a guide as the artisans at Dark Horse digitally recolor the pages of each reprint volume.

Disney Unveils ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Art and Logo

Diehard Star Wars fans got the chance to check out some new art and logo from the upcoming Star Wars Rebels at the franchise’s Celebration Europe event in Germany on Saturday. The animated TV series, which is coming to Disney Channel and Disney XD in 2014 takes place between Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, spanning about 20 years.
The official logline describes the period as “a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
