Disney Channel says its Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel special which aired at 8 p.m. on Friday (August 16) garnered the series’ best numbers in over six months in Total Viewers (3.8 million) and Kids 6-11 (1.7 million/7.1 rating), in nearly one year in Kids 2-11 (2.3 million/5.7 rating) and in over one year in Boys 6-11 (827,000/6.9 rating) and Boys 2-11 (1.1 million/5.3 rating)—since 2/1/13, 8/24/12 and 7/26/12, respectively. The special crossover episode also ranked as Friday’s #1 TV telecast across major youth demos and was the #1 cable TV telecast in Total Viewers.

Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis secured the top spot on a list of "The 50 Greatest Graphic Novels of All Time" compiled by The Herald of Scotland, which surveyed an undisclosed number of “cartoonists, novelists, critics, journalists, comic historians, comedians, and the odd musician” in order to come up with the rankings. There are more than a few surprises on the list (From Hell is ranked ahead of Watchmen), and there is a definite European bias (manga is represented only by one volume from Otomo, one from Tezuka, and Barefoot Gen), but it is instructive nonetheless.

He's arguably the most iconic villain in the history of everything, but Darth Vader was almost a very different creature ... that is, if George Lucas' early screenplay for something called "The Star Wars" had made its way from page to screen.
Lucas' first pass at what would become the biggest pop culture phenomenon of all time (don't argue) had only a passing resemblance to the "Star Wars" we now all know and have memorized. His May 1974 screenplay known as "The Star Wars" is finally seeing the light of day courtesy of a limited comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics, in which we'll be introduced to such characters as wise old General Luke Skywalker, cocky but naive farmboy Annikin Starkiller and a lizard-like alien named ... Han Solo.

Did everyone rush out and see Top Cat: The Movie when it opened in theatres the first weekend of August? Did anyone even know that something called Top Cat: The Movie opened in theatres on the first weekend in August? Me neither; I stumbled over it accidentally.
Top Cat: The Movie is the English language version of a Mexican-Argentine animated film called Don Gato y su Pandilla (Top Cat and His Gang), which was made in 2011. And the way it oozed its way out into a very limited release here really doesn’t seem to do justice to the boss, to the pip, to the championship that I remember so fondly from my childhood.

Second ‘Yoda Chronicles’ Outing Premieres Sept. 4

The popular LEGO Star Wars franchise will return to the small screen as Cartoon Network premieres the second installment of their three-part series of CG animated specials, The Yoda Chronicles. The new comedy-actioner special, “Menace of the Sith,” premieres Wednesday, September 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the network.
Set in the prequel era of the smash hit sci-fi film series, Yoda Chronicles follows the small but powerful Jedi Master as he leads a fresh class of Padawans in a desperate fight to stop Darth Sidious and his minions from creating a new super-weapon that could crush the Republic and win the galaxy for the forces of evil. “Menace of the Sith” finds Darth Sidious introducing the new Sith clone JEK 14, an extremely powerful weapon of the dark side. However, JEK 14 has a mind of his own, instigating a battle of wills between Sith and Jedi in an attempt to win him over.

'Thor: The Dark World' HD Trailer

Disney has released a second trailer for Thor: The Dark World, the second film in Marvel Studios’ post-Avengers Phase 2, which is set to open nationwide on November 8th. Alan Taylor is directing the second stand-alone Thor film, which features Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-toting Norse Deity, Natalie Portman as his human love interest, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Tom Hiddleston as the ever-conniving Loki.
Although the tone of this new trailer is dark indeed with Hopkins as Odin intoning, "Some believe that before the darkness there was nothing. They’re wrong, there was darkness and it survived," Portman manages to add a dose of lively humor to the proceedings by slapping Loki and then adding an Avengers-themed quip, "That was for New York," and the levity continues in the trailer’s final sequence as Thor dispatches a massive stone swordsman.

It looks like Fox is hungry for more of its new adult animated toons, Axe Cop and High School USA. The network has increased its orders for each show from the original six to 12 quarter-hour episodes. The shows scored over 1.5 million viewers during the new Animation Domination High Def block on Saturday, July 27.
“I thought to roll out 12 gives us a little more of an anchor,” Nick Weidenfeld, the network’s head of Animation Domination HD, told The Futon Critic. “We’re just starting. It’s also way better for production because we can get invested in those shows.”
