Sgt Frog - The age old story of a boy meeting an evil alien frog, Sgt Frog is an internationally loved manga with a twisted sense of comedy and penchant for pop culture references that seems to translate into any language. The story finds the Hinata family trying to co-habitate with a legion of space-frogs bent on world domination. Written by Mine Yoshizaki, Sgt Frog also went on to be adapted into one of the funnier anime series in recent history. Not bad for a tiny amphibian who loves building Gundam more than enslaving the planet. Kero, Kero!

Theater Murals in Japan Showcase 21 Ghibli Movies

Hugo Ozman of Twitchfilm.com reports that giant murals have been unveiled in 26 theaters across Japan today celebrating images from 21 Studio Ghibli features made between 1984 and 2013. The campaign is a tie-in marketing push for Hayao Miyazaki’s July 20 release The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) and the fall title Takahata Isao’s The Tale of Princess Kaguya (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari). According to Ozman, the murals are about 12.8 tall and 82.7 feet wide (3.9 m X 25.2 m).

Vertigo Schedules Gaiman 'Sandman'

Vertigo has announced that the new Neil Gaiman Sandman miniseries (see “Gaiman to Write New ‘Sandman’ Series”), The Sandman: Overture will launch October 30 with an oversized issue with an interior gatefold.
Dave McKean, who did the covers for the original Gaiman-penned Sandman series, will do covers for Overture, along with new series artist J.H. Williams. Promo art (top image) and cover (second image), provided by DC.

Hunger Games’ Panel Planned for Comic-Con

Comic-Con’s Saturday (July 20th) session schedule just got a lot more interesting thanks to the folks at Lionsgate. The studio is offering panels on two of its upcoming big sci-fi/fantasy titles Hunger Games: Catching Fire (opens Nov. 22nd) and I, Frankenstein (opens Jan. 24, 2014) on that day. Rumor has it that Marvel is also going to serve up some killer sessions on that same day. Fandango’s chief correspondent Dave Karger will moderate the Comic-con panels
