AMC Seals Deal for 'Preacher' TV Series
Feb,06,2014
by:+Staff

The AMC basic cable network, which has scored a huge hit with its adaptation of the comic book-based The Walking Dead, has announced that it has sealed the deal for another comic book-based live-action TV series—one that will be based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial (and highly entertaining) Preacher comic book series published by DC’s Vertigo imprint. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the edgy writing team behind Superbad, Pineapple Express, and last summer’s This Is the End. Perhaps even better news for Preacher fans is the fact that AMC has hired Sam Catlin, who was the showrunner for the award-winning Breaking Bad, to executive produce and function as the showrunner for Preacher.

Tales from the Toon Trenches Joe Barbera’s Snow Job
Jan,31,2014
by:+Michael Mallory

As regular readers of this blog know, whenever I’m at a loss for a story idea, I turn back to the book of Joe … Barbera, that is. I knew Joe for the last several years of his life and would often go up to his office and have lunch with him, or just sit and talk. 'Barbarella' TV Series Set Up at Amazon
Jan,20,2014
by+Staff

A TV series based on Jean Claude Foret’s Barbarella graphic novel has apparently found a home at Amazon, which has begun to field its own slate of streaming TV series. Foret’s Barbarella first appeared in serial form in V-Magazine in 1962 and was collected in a graphic novel that was published in 1964. Though its nudity was mild by the standard of adult comics today (or the Tijuana Bibles that long preceded Barbarella), Foret’s creation caused something a scandal in France where it became known as the first "adult" comic book.

by:+Staff

Rupert Sanders, who directed a live-action film featuring the heroine of the first animated feature of them all (Snow White and the Huntsman), has been tapped by Dreamworks to helm a live-action film based on the manga and anime property Ghost in the Shell, which was created by Masamune Shirow. Shirow’s original manga, which was published in 1987 and appears ever more prescient with its vision of a computer-dominated future replete with hacker villains, spawned three anime movies, an anime TV series (Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex), and three videogames.
