CW Taps Berlanti, Plec for Tomorrow People Redo

Greg Berlanti and Julie Plec, who first collaborated on Dawson’s Creek, are teaming up to adapt the ‘70s Brit sci-fi drama The Tomorrow People for the CW, says The Hollywood Reporter. The Tomorrow People was created by Roger Price and revolves around young people across the globe who are the next stage of human evolution, possessing special powers which they use to fight the forces of evil. The original series ran from 1973-79; a revival produced by Price ran on Nickelodeon from 1992-95.

Although I frequently write about digital comics for some reason I let several stories on the subject somehow slip past me. For instance, for some reason I decided to ignore the story about how sales of DC Digital Comics rose nearly 200% over the course of a year. The way I found a reason to avoid writing about how DC Comics would now be available via not just Comixology but three of the most popular e-bookstores; the Kindle Store, iBookstore, and Nook Store (see "DC Goes Wide") went without comment. Then came the story I couldn't let go without comment; "DC Comics 'Considering' Digital Subscriptions," at least according to a piece by Russ Burlingame that appeared on the comicbook.com web site.

The year’s strong slate of independent comics arts festivals ended with Saturday’s Brooklyn Comics and Graphic festival, held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Williamsburg and at satellite events around Brooklyn. While the show is free to attend and doesn’t keep any kind of attendance numbers, it was clear that from the opening at 11 a.m. the show was packed, with tables thronged by people eager to buy limited edition comics and prints. “We did in one day about what we do at the Small Press Expo,” said Secret Acres co-publisher Leon Avelino. Festival co-organizer Dan Nadel reported a similar metric for his PictureBox Press.

GRIMES, Iowa, Nov. 14, 2012 – Anime producer and distributor Right Stuf, Inc. and its Lucky Penny Entertainment label are pleased to announce the SWEET BLUE FLOWERS (Aoi Hana) Complete Series DVD set will be available on March 5, 2013.
The DVD set will include the entire 11-episode television series, in a single DVD keepcase, with Japanese audio, English subtitles and on-screen translations, and on-disc video extras.
This anime adaptation of the character-driven, coming-of-age manga by Takako Shimura (Wandering Son) features direction by Kenichi Kasai (Honey and Clover), animation by J.C. Staff (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Nodame Cantabile), and an opening animation sequence conceived by Kunihiko Ikuhara (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguin Drum). The series succeeded Ristorante Paradiso in Fuji TV’s NOISE timeslot and was also simulcast by Crunchyroll. In 2009, it was recognized by the jury of the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival as a recommended work.
