Everyone loves mechas. Who isn't thrilled by the sight of a four-story-tall robot laying waste to an equally large robot (or better yet, an equally large monster)? Recently, we asked you to name your favorite mechas in geekdom and you answered. Here's a look at the 'bots who made the cut.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - With a name like "Heaven Piercing," it's no surprise that the massive bot topped your list of favorite mechas. Not only is Gurren Lagann the titular mecha of the extremely popular Gurren Lagann series but it's also the most powerful and destructive. With armor made of the skulls of vanquished enemies, it has a constant energy source burning at its core (and a pair of “non-functioning demonic sunglasses”), which makes Gurren Lagann the strongest mech from the series and the coolest looking.

When Was First DC Transgender Character?

When we published our article on Gail Simone’s story in Batgirl #19 in which a character in the book is revealed to be transgender (see “DC Reveals First Transgender Character”), it brought out some responses from our readers who questioned the characterization in the headline that this was the first transgender character in a Big Two universe.
Reader Glenn Russell pointed out that Shvaughn Erin, in Legion of Super-Heroes #31, reveals that she was born a male but had been female due to a biological transformation caused by a medication. “Where Gail Simone goes today, Giffen, Doran & Swan broke the ground twenty years ago,” he wrote.

'Man of Steel' Trailer Wows From 'Birthright'

The new Man of Steel trailer is setting the Internet on fire with kudos for its classic feel and big movie spirit. It digests the Superman origin story, along with a taste of the conflict in the film.
The Man of Steel origin story has elements drawn from Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu’s Superman: Birthright limited series. Waid tweeted, "New Superman trailer? I am OVER THE MOON. Goyer used Birthright’s 'The 'S' Stands for Hope.' I am EUPHORIC." He followed it up with, "Also? The line about 'You're the answer to the question 'Are we alone in the universe' also directly from BR. VERY chuffed."
